I miss the days of plinking and hunting with the affordable .22. Only problem is ,22 ammo is not so affordable anymore. We used to shoot a brick or two of ammo during an afternoon of shooting. The Eva Shockey Signature Series Golden Eagle by Benjamin uses .177 pellets, and it has replaced the .22 in our household for having fun.
These are not the pellet guns of my youth; these air rifles are designed with “more speed, more power, more accuracy and reduced cocking force”¹. These guns have enough punch to take down game ranging from squirrels to turkeys. They feature the Nitro Piston 2 powerplant and have a Monte Carlo stock that is ergonomically designed and have custom soft touch inserts.
They also feature a smooth two stage trigger and sound suppressor to help make those clean and lethal shots. The pellet velocity ranges from 1150 feet per second for lead pellets to an amazing 1400 feet per second on the alloy pellets.
You cock the gun by using the break barrel, using thirty pounds of force, and the gun holds one shot at a time. The barrel is rifled steel, and the stock synthetic, bringing the gun weight to a mere eight pounds. A 4 X 32 MM scope is included, and the dovetail mounting rail makes installation quick and easy.
Our family has had lots of fun plinking with this pellet gun. With the included scope, we were able to sight it in very accurately. We took the gun out squirrel hunting, with success! The squirrel was up in a tree about fifteen yards away, and it dropped immediately from the shot. Damage was minimal to meat due to the pellet being fast and not expanding like rifle loads. I would love to take it out for turkey; with the matte finish, you would be sure nothing was catching and reflecting the sun light. My grandson has fallen in love with this air rifle. He keeps dropping hints for either his birthday or Christmas. I may have to make sure “Santa” puts one under the tree this year.
The MSRP of the Eva Shockey Signature Series Golden Eagle pellet gun in .177 is $229.99 and is available for purchase at http://www.crosman.com/golden-eagle-np2. The pellets are an affordable $11.99 for 750 and are available to buy at http://www.crosman.com/benjamin-discovery-hollow-point-pellets-177. That’s just 1.6 cents per shot!
