This past year I was in the market for a new pair of binoculars for hunting. While at ATA, I talked at length with TRUGLO about their products, and shortly after I was testing out their Open Bridge Binoculars in real hunting conditions.

According to reports, approximately 90% of binocular owners do not know how to adjust the focus for their eyesight¹. Even the most expensive pair of binoculars will be unclear and unfocused if you do not adjust them properly for you! Since I suffer from an astigmatism,  the first thing I needed to do was adjust the diopter setting. With the Open Bridge Binoculars this is easily accomplished in just 4 steps, and now the binoculars were adjusted for my particular vision issues. Now every time I pick up the binoculars I am able to use just the center focus wheel to find my target clearly.

Features of the binoculars include twist up eyecups, lockable diopter, the single adjustment wheel works for both focus and diopter settings, BAK-4 prism design and silver coating on prisms. The textured surface provides a non-slip grip for all conditions and makes grip easier when wearing gloves too. The green matte finish blends with my hunting clothes, and does not reflect to alert wildlife. This all comes with a protective case for packing your optics and a 1 year limited warranty.

A Ladies in Camo Staff hog hunt was the first opportunity to use the binoculars in hunting conditions, and I was not let down! I spent several days sitting in a very tall stand that over looks both food plots and brushy areas, all bordering the creek with my daughter, Leann. It didn’t take long before rustling was heard, and a 260 pound wild boar cautiously entered an opening. Using my TRUGLO

Binoculars, I quickly confirmed for Leann that this was a great shooter boar. As she located the hog with her scope, I was able to keep him in view while he darted in and out of the brush. Soon he presented a good shot position and I told Leann to take her shot when she was comfortable. She did! Nothing like watching your daughter take her first wild hog, while you are viewing the whole process with the clarity of really good binoculars!

In the days to come, I spot and stalked hogs thru some of the wettest and thickest conditions that southern Alabama has to offer. At all times, I was able to acquire my views quickly and effortlessly with the binoculars. Plus as they weigh only a pound and a half, my neck did not tire and ache from carrying them for miles.

Deer hunting in Pennsylvania means long hours glassing, and waiting. My binoculars get a real workout. I hunt a long field that the deer can enter at various locations. I need to trust that I can see clearly at all distances, whether I am scoping out a deer entering at several hundred yards or checking out the headgear on a buck only a mere handful of yards away.

The MSRP of the TRUGLO Open Bridge Binoculars is $303.00 and is available for purchase at https://www.truglo.com/optics-binoculars/tru-brite-open-bridge-binoculars.asp?catid=D11744F3921B4FA896273DAF8DAB5F55.

Do you own a lot of different caliber or gauge guns? We do, and to fit all of the various sizes, we have lots of boxes of tools, brushes and rods.

Most of our shooting is either from target practice, or hunting. We own rifles ranging from the small .17 all the way up to a .50 caliber, and shotguns from .410 to 10 gauge, plus a flintlock and muzzle loader, not to mention many handguns. Obviously the cleaning needs differ in this wide range. The Otis Elite Gun Cleaning System covers over 40 firearm calibers and includes 22 bronze bore brushes, 6 Memory-Flex Cables, obstruction removal tools, precision tools for breakdown and fine cleaning, optics cleaning gear, a removable tactical cleaning system. All this comes complete in a black nylon carrying case that zippers closed. The kit measures a compact 15 1/4″ X 8 3/4″ X 4 1/2″.

On any given weekend, we may pull out a half dozen or so different guns to play around with. If we were to have to pull out all the firearm specific cleaning supplies, the cleaning of the firearms would take longer than we were shooting. Using the Otis Elite Gun Cleaning System, one kit does it all. Having everything in one place, and organized, saves lots of time. The bag also makes it convenient when going on a hunt, just pack the bag and go.

During May, Ladies in Camo hosted a hog hunt for our staff. We had various calibers being used; .223, .270, 30.06, .44, and 7mm08. I brought along the Otis Elite and we had all the cleaning tools needed available! Being as we were hunting in high humidity and some rain, nightly I was cleaning my 30.06 up. Several times Leann and I spot and stalked, which involved hiking through muck and crossing creeks. As much as I tried to keep my firearm out of harms way, I failed. I ended up with mud both inside and out, and Otis had everything I needed. My gun would have been unsafe to use with the barrel obstructed, but that wasn’t a problem when you have the right tools!

The MSRP of the OTIS Elite is $149.99 and can be purchased at http://www.otistec.com /pc_product_detail.asp?key=42C53F70C0A941A2B942452A4E83C9CF&utm_source=ClearSender and most sporting goods retailers.

For the last six years, I have been a dedicated crossbow hunter for the archery seasons. I had to turn to the crossbow after a battle with breast cancer, which left me unable to pull a compound bow. Since then, I decided I loved archery too much to give up on it so I switched over to crossbows. I have hunted bear, deer, caribou, alligator, zebra, and hogs. I like the calmness and solitude of archery hunting, and I need equipment I can count on.

TRUGLO makes a Dual Color Open Red Dot Sight for Crossbows, that features the trajectory compensation system. This system uses the fps of your crossbow to determine which reticle to use; there are four different reticles ranging from 300 fps to 400 fps. After your initial sighting in and selection of your reticle, the sight then should be tested at the various distances. There are two color choices for the reticle, which should provide greater contrast in any conditions. The 24mm X 34mm window is large enough to provide for “ultra-fast target acquisition”¹ and is parallax free from thirty yards. The sight is easily mounted using the integrated Weaver-style mounting system.

Another option for your crossbow or firearm is the Triton 30 mm. This tricolor reticle sight consisting of red, green, and blue, is designed to work in every situation and provide amble contrast. There is a pressure sensitive switch included, which will allow you to turn your sight on with undetectable movement. This attaches with a simple cord, which would be perfect when hunting turkeys, especially from the ground. The sight comes complete with a flip-up lens cap, and the integrated Weaver-style mounting system, and a detachable sunshade to eliminate glare.

I used the Dual Color Open Red Dot sight throughout archery season for deer. While I did not get a shot opportunity, I was pleased with the accuracy of the sight anytime I rechecked my yardage. I switched to the Triton 30mm at the end of the whitetail archery season in preparation for Spring Turkey. I intend to put the pressure switch to good use out in the field. With the minimal movement needed to turn the sight on, I need not worry about being spotted by a wary tom!
