McNett Outgo, the makers of my favorite microfiber towels, have made a very special pink towel available, with a portion of all proceeds going towards breast cancer research! These towels are the same quality as you have come to expect from their Ultra Compact Micro Fiber Towels, only in a bright pink color and an embroidered pink ribbon to show their support.

I am a two-time survivor of breast cancer, so these are very important to me, as research and early detection are the key to beating breast cancer. These towels are very compact, but will absorb five times their weight in water, wicking it away from your skin or hair with ease. A big bonus when camping or any outdoor activity using these towels, is their ability to dry faster than your standard terry cloth towels; the towels are treated with Silvaour, to inhibit any odor causing bacteria. At a generous 30″ X 50″ this towel will do double duty as both a body and hair towel. There is an attached loop that snaps closed for hanging, and the loop also has a place for your name, making it ideal for sending kids off to camp.

I always have my original Outgo Microfiber towel with me when I go camping, but this time along side my moss colored towel I had the pink. My husband of course thought this was perfect as we could each have our own towel, and there would be no mistaking them. We rustic camp, so washing up means using  water out of the nearby creek. This was a family camping trip, and my granddaughter jumped at the chance to be able to use my new towel, Being as the temperature was only in the 40’s, getting the water out of hair, so it can dry quicker, is very important.

Other uses for these multipurpose towels could include: light blanket, body wrap, scarf or head wrap, padding for a seat, or even a picnic blanket. With time and use, I am sure to find many more uses for this unique towel. If you travel and spend time in the outdoors or are sending your child off to camp, these towels would make a great addition to your equipment. Actually any activity that you would need to shower or dry off, these towels would work wonderful for, indoors or out!

The MSRP of the towels is $24.95, and they can be purchased at https://www.mcnett.com/outgo/pink-microfiber-towel#68165; Remember, a portion of the sales goes toward Breast Cancer Research! Aquamira-Safe Water For All Your Outdoors Activities

13 11 2015

aquamiraAmericans are worried about their drinking water. That is why over 50 billion bottles of water were consumed last year. When you look at the numbers, the plastic required to bottle that amount of water equates to more than 1 billion dollars of plastic. At home I try to use filter bottles, and my tap water to drink; when I am outdoors, it is impossible to carry the amount of water I need daily with me.

Aquamira makes staying hydrated and cutting down on the plastic waste hitting the landfills easy. The Frontier Flow Filtered Water Bottle takes out 99.9999% of bacteria, including  Cryptosporidium and Giardia. Chlorine and bad odors/taste are also removed by the Green Line replaceable filter, and the Red LIne Filter removes all this and viruses for when you travel abroad or areas prone to water born viruses. This water bottle has the highest flow rate of any water bottle on the market, at 500 ml per minute, and it is BPA free. The bottle is treated with Miraguard™ Antimicrobial Technology to reduce the growth of bacteria, fungus, and mold within the filter. The new design of the ergonomic bottle is to be comfortable in hand and to fit into bicycle water bottle holders. It utilizes a Bite Me valve, and best of all, Made in the USA! The Green Line filter filters 100 gallons of water over the life of the filter, while the Red Line filter treats 120 gallons.

I keep a carabiner on the finger grip carry loop, so it can hang off of my packs or belt. When I am in a treestand, the same carabiner can be used to hold the bottle on a tree hook or limb.

The Frontier Max In-Line Filtration System uses the same type of Red Line filtering system in a in-line design made perfect for hydration packs. Using the Quick Connect adapter, I had the in-line filter installed in minutes on my hunting pack. Now no matter where I go or how I get there, I will be sure of safe, clean water anytime.

While I try to fill my bottle or hydration pack from the tap, occasions arise that make that impossible; at these times, I fill my bottle from fast running water that is flowing over rocks and is highly aerated.

Recently I spent ten days camping with my family. I carried the Frontier Flow or the Frontier Max with me everywhere as I fished and hiked. I was confident that the water I was ingesting was safe and free from any worrisome bacteria, bugs, and/or viruses. My granddaughter tended to grab whichever filter I was not using to use herself. I would never deny her access to clean water, and I think these will make the ideal Christmas present for her!

You can stack a lot of bowls when they only take up a little space! The FlexWare 2.0 Bowl features a rigid rim for secure handling, and expands to 4″ X 5″. You can collapse the bowl to a mere 1″ X 5″. The bowl holds approximately 24 ounces when expanded. Using the FlexWare products free up a lot of room in my limited storage while camping. There are a lot of other products that I am looking to add, including a Coffee Drip and a Water Bottle. While the products I have are in blue, lime and orange are also offered on the website.

While on an extended camping trip with our family, we found more and more ways to use the FlexWare products. Our grandchildren used them at every opportunity for meals and snacks. Being as the bowls and mugs were flexible, I did not worry about them falling and breaking the items, or being cut by them. The kids felt free to take their snacks to whatever spot they felt comfortable in, including the hammock.

Eva Shockey and Crosman Team Up on the Golden Eagle Pellet Gun

I miss the days of plinking and hunting with the affordable .22. Only problem is ,22 ammo is not so affordable anymore. We used to shoot a brick or two of ammo during an afternoon of shooting. The Eva Shockey Signature Series Golden Eagle by Benjamin uses .177 pellets, and it has replaced the .22 in our household for having fun.

Affordable plinking is available again!! Photo: Diane Hassinger

These are not the pellet guns of my youth; these air rifles are designed with “more speed, more power, more accuracy and reduced cocking force”¹. These guns have enough punch to take down game ranging from squirrels to turkeys. They feature the Nitro Piston 2 powerplant and have a Monte Carlo stock that is ergonomically designed and have custom soft touch inserts.

They also feature a smooth two stage trigger and sound suppressor to help make those clean and lethal shots. The pellet velocity ranges from 1150 feet per second for lead pellets to an amazing 1400 feet per second on the alloy pellets.

You cock the gun by using the break barrel, using thirty pounds of force, and the gun holds one shot at a time. The barrel is rifled steel, and the stock synthetic, bringing the gun weight to a mere eight pounds. A 4 X 32 MM scope is included, and the dovetail mounting rail makes installation quick and easy.

Our family has had lots of fun plinking with this pellet gun. With the included scope, we were able to sight it in very accurately. We took the gun out squirrel hunting, with success! The squirrel was up in a tree about fifteen yards away, and it dropped immediately from the shot. Damage was minimal to meat due to the pellet being fast and not expanding like rifle loads. I would love to take it out for turkey; with the matte finish, you would be sure nothing was catching and reflecting the sun light.  My grandson has fallen in love with this air rifle. He keeps dropping hints for either his birthday or Christmas. I may have to make sure “Santa” puts one under the tree this year.

The MSRP of the Eva Shockey Signature Series Golden Eagle pellet gun in .177 is $229.99 and is available for purchase at http://www.crosman.com/golden-eagle-np2. The pellets are an affordable $11.99 for 750 and are available to buy at http://www.crosman.com/benjamin-discovery-hollow-point-pellets-177. That’s just 1.6 cents per shot!

I spend so much of my life outdoors and away from cell phone service that I need to trust my 2 way radios. Motorola Solutions makes sure that I can stay in touch even when I am out of touch! The new T465 Weatherproof Talkabout Two Way Radios fit my lifestyle, and may save my life.

The T465’s are waterproof, impervious to rain, snow and other weather conditions. There are 22 channels, using privacy codes, there are over 1662 combinations of channel configurations. The NOAA channel keeps you updated with real time weather conditions, although this service may not be available in all areas. The included batteries are rechargeable, although you can substitute AA batteries if you are in an are that you can not recharge in. You also have the ability to communicate hands free and use the Vibracall for situations that demand quiet, such as when you are hunting. You can also customize your ringtones with 20 different call tones, including animal calls. The T465 has all these features and a LED flashlight!

You get a pair of radios in an outdoor green color, 2 NiMH rechargeable batteries, 2 Micro-USB wall charging cables,2 belt clips, 2 earbuds with PTT microphone all in a nice black carrying case. These radios will also communicate with other Motorola Solutions 2 way radios, and possibly other, but I only have Motorola Solutions radios.

I love stream fishing, but it is not a good idea to be wading in cold, sometimes deep water by yourself. Sometimes, tho, I want to have some me time, and take off by myself for a relaxing day all by myself. Those days I make sure to take the

T465 radio with me, with the other left with my husband for safety’s sake. While salmon fishing, we had 15 family and friends going in every direction possible. Using my 2 way radios, we could stay in contact, and react quickly in event of someone falling in or needing help landing a fish. Many times the radios were used for more fun reasons; “Hey you should see the salmon I just caught”, “Did you see those deer”, What time is dinner”. It was nice being able to respond from even a mile and a half apart. Several times my presence on my quad was requested, either to transport fish or people back to camp, and their “taxi” was only a radio call away.

Being as we were remote camping, I was able to charge my radios with a solar panel most times, but I did switch to AA batteries toward the end of the trip. This made using the radios very convenient to use. With a range of up to 35 miles, you can stay in touch most everywhere!

The MSRP of the T465 Weatherproof Talkabout Two Way Radios are $104.99 and there is purchasing information at http://www.motorolasolutions.com/en_us/products/two-way-radios/consumer-two-way-radios/talkabout–t465.html.
