About

I am always looking for new adventures!

I learned  the love of outdoors as a young child growing up in Mars, Pennsylvania.  My family had a fishing camp on the shores of Pymatuming Lake, and I could often be found fishing the shallows.  To this day I go fishing anytime and anyplace I can.

No one in my family at that time hunted, so I learned about hunting by reading every book and magazine I could get my hands on.  It was refreshing when I married Dale that he was a hunter and fisherman.  We now do our hunts and fishing trips together and with our family .  We currently have 4 children;  Shannon, Leann and Kaitlyn and Cy who are both adopted.  We lost our son Mathew in a boating accident 15 years ago, he died trying to save his friend from drowning.  We also have 5 grandchildren;  Sarah, Ryan, Caleb, Eliana and Madison.

I work for Hassinger Construction as the office manager, and for Egreen Corporation as their Payroll/HR Administrator.  Both jobs are rather flexible allowing me to indulge myself with hunting/fishing trips as needed.

I have hunted and fished some of the most beautiful places on the world:  Cabo San Lucas, Mexico for Marlin, Tuna and dorado; Alaska for 5 species of salmon, halibut and ling cod; New York for salmon and brown trout; Florida for sail fish, tarpon, bass, dolphin fish,  barracuda, alligator and hogs; Illinois for whitetail deer; Alabama for whitetail deer, quail and hogs; Maine for moose and bear; North Carolina for quail; Costa Rica for tarpon; Virginia off shore fishing;  Anticosti Island, Quebec, Canada for whitetail deer, Nunavik, Quebec, Canada for Caribou and Ptarmigan; Ontario, Canada for fresh water fish and Pennsylvania for everything!

While I prefer my compound bow for hunting, I had a bout with breast cancer 2 ½ years ago that resulted in me having a bilateral mastectomy.  They also removed some lymph nodes to check for the spread of cancer. Following my surgery, no one could answer whether I would ever be able to fish, bow hunt, or shoot shotguns and rifles again. No one had ever asked these questions of my doctors, I was the first! I am delighted to prove to everyone, that not only is it possible, but you can still be successful as well!   I am still building up the muscles that were destroyed in the surgery, so for now I hunt with a crossbow with a handicap designation, as well as my rifles and shotguns. We all have scars that have made us the people we are, emotional or physical the scars are a reminder of your strength.  I am proud to not only say I am a cancer survivor, but I am enjoying life!   Everyone should get out and do what they love every opportunity they can. “Love the Life you Live, Live the Life you Love” (Bob Marley)

I’m happy to have found your blog through WOMA this morning. Isn’t it something that you are the first to ask about outdoors activities after mastectomy. I’m sure you’re inspiring other cancer conquerers to get out there and give it a go after surgery.
